Part Funded Counselling

Counselling is an amazing opportunity for young people to explore their thoughts and feelings a supportive environment! It helps them tackle stress, anxiety, and challenges head-on, equipping them with powerful coping strategies. Through counselling young individuals can boost their self-esteem, sharpen their communication skills, and unlock a deeper understanding of their emotions. Ultimately, it empowers them to make choices and thrive in their personal growth journey!

How does it work?

Counselling is not easily accessible to many children & young people for many reasons.  We believe that it should be, especially to those who wouldn't normally have access to such support elsewhere.

Counselling sessions can be very costly, in order to help more children & young people and their parents or carers with this specialist support, we have some funding to pay £30 towards the cost of each session with a fully vetted and qualified counsellor.  There are only a few sessions available each week and they will be held at our counsellors room which will be in Byfleet or within an easy commute to Byfleet.  We do operate a waiting list for this service if we are at capacity, but this isn't usually too long.

If you believe you or someone you care for would like support for their mental health through counselling, are happy to contribute to the remaining cost of each session and can travel to Byfleet please complete our self referral form below and someone will contact you within 7 days to discuss further.

If our counselling expert believes that counselling may work for you (or the person you are referring) they will put you in contact with one of our fully qualified counsellors who will then arrange your initial session at a mutually convenient time.

If you are do not want to complete the form below, please feel free to email info@thematthewhackneyfoundation.co.uk.

We do have a dedicated phone number but are not based in a dedicated office (to reduce overhead costs) and are therefore not always available to answer your call so an email is usually the best way to get in touch.

Please complete this to apply for part-funded  counselling for a child or young person or their carer/s.

This is aimed at Young People (who are no longer in education) or children who do not attend a school in which we already offer counselling support.  We also have limited funds to offer support to parents/carers if they find that their own mental health is affecting their children.

Note that due to limited funding, the act of submitting this form does not automatically guarantee that counselling will be provided or that the service we offer would be appropriate for your needs or the needs of the young person concerned.

By completing and submitting this form, you are confirming that you are aged between 16 and 25 and self-referring OR that you are the parents or carer of a young person aged under 16 and you are giving consent for our qualified and checked counsellors, working on behalf of The Matthew Hackney Foundation, to carry out private counselling sessions online with the young person in your care.

You are also confirming that you are happy for us to gather and store your email address, and for us to forward this to a qualified counsellor so that they can get in touch with you to discuss your counselling requirements and begin counselling if appropriate. We want to help if we can however, please be advised that counselling is not always the best option for all mental health conditions.

If you are under 16, then we will need to contact your parent or guardian in order to obtain their permission to enter into a counselling relationship with you.  Please note that anything discussed within counselling sessions will remain completely confidential, unless by law  where there is risk of harm to yourself or others, where there is a legal requirement (e.g. protection of children or prevention of terrorism), or where there is a significant threat to the health and safety of those within an organisation.
