We don't like Cricket...We love it

On Sunday 11th August, Byfleet Cricket Club hosted another Charity Cricket Tournament on our behalf. Four teams made up of 11 regular cricketers, occasional cricketers and some that have never played before, competed against each other in a series of short 50 ball matches. The teams were led by some superstars; John Harrison, Corrine Mickley, Richard Hackney and Sam Crabtree (who sponsored the food and Band together with his gorgeous wife, Jade).

The first match was played between John's team (Black shirts) and Corrine's team (Navy Shirts) and after 50 balls were bowled, Corrine's team went through to the semi final.

The second match was between Sam's Team (White shirts) and Richards team (Royal blue shirts) and following some interesting play during their 50 ball match, Sam's team were the victors.

At the half time interval, children and non-cricketers on the day had the opportunity to partake in a number of skill challenges. A lot of fun was had and some prizes were won!

The 3rd place final followed between John and Richard's team. Boundaries were scored and catches caught but John's team pipped Richard's team to the post to win 3rd place.

The final followed between Sam and Corrine's team, a highly competitive match that lead Sam's team to overall victory. Very fitting as Sam (with his wife Jade) were the sponsors of the day, and very well deserved. I am sure that there will be more willing participants to challenge Sam and his team next year.....?????

While the matches were being played...........

Some gorgeous young ladies spent many hours of their summer holidays making these amazing bracelets and rings from Loom Bands. They made some intricate and colourful designs and set up their own stall on the day, raising an absolutely phenomenal £74. Thank you so much girls! You all did such a lovely thing for the charity, well done. You are a wonderful team of youngsters and we are sure you will go far.

Our amazing raffle was arranged by our amazing Hollie Williams and was made up of some amazing prizes. I'm sure you'll agree there was literally something for everyone! Some of the prizes ranged from fun family days out, meals, experiences, booze and beautifying bits.

These wonderful prizes were generously donated by loads of amazing local companies and individuals. We are so very grateful for your support because we literally would not have raised so much without these wonderful donations.

We also ran a 'Pimms, Aperol, Prosecco and Wine' outside bar tent which was very well supported throughout the day. Many many jugs of Pimms and Aperol Spritz were purchased, along with a number of cooling beverages. The perfect complement to the Barbeque that was lit later in the afternoon for Burgers and/or sausages. All food was very Kindly donated by Sam and Jade Crabtree and all proceeds from the sale of the yummy food were donated to the charity.

Scattered around the outfield were some garden games to play and for the children we had a fundraising tombola and friendship band making table for those 'swifties'. The glitter tattoos and festival headwear went down well with all ages. Everyone really did look all festival ready!

Again some of the amazing youngsters helped our adults run these, all of which were a huge success.

Cricket is a game that can be extremely inclusive and fun for all! Everyone had a fabulous chilled day in the gorgeous grounds of the club and the wonderful sunshine (specially ordered for the day) while watching the matches and participating in a beverage or two.

The day was finished off perfectly by a live band 'The Weysters' who played two sets of brilliant music on the outfield where we all had a boogie and a sing along. The band were also very kindly and generously sponsored by Sam and Jade Crabtree. Thank you so very much Jade and Sam and everyone at Byfleet Cricket Club for the use of their amazing grounds and clubhouse. We love you all.

Thank you to everyone who helped, played, supported, and popped along to enjoy the day, we hope you all had as much fun as we did and to top off the wonderful day we raised an amazing...................

£2383.00

This astonishing amount will help us to to continue our work with children and young people mental health. For example this would go a very long way to provide a counsellor for 3 sessions per week in a school for a year, or would cover the cost of 2 counsellors to provide part funded counselling sessions for a year. This is a huge amount and will really help lots of children and young people who wouldn't have access to the support elsewhere.

If you would like to support one of our next events you can come along to our mini Byfest festival, details below, or attend our Annual Winter Ball on Saturday 16th November 2024 (details advertised shortly)
